Additional Trustworthy  Resources for Your Credit Score,

FICO, and Credit Reports

Annual Credit is the ONLY site that's truly free. They distribute the annual free report for the "Big Three" - Experian, TransUnion, Equifax - once each year.

You know the pitch … "We can fix your bad credit. Guaranteed!" Well if you don't read another word of this article, take heed to this advice: Don't believe it. No legitimate organization would ever make that claim.

But you can take steps to improve your credit now.

And there are many things you can do on your own. You can make sure your credit report is timely and does reflect accurate information. And in many cases - anything that a company wants to charge you to do --- you can do yourself at little or no cost.

Get Your FREE report from the Big Three.

Each of the nationwide credit reporting companies (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion) are required to provide you with a free copy of your credit report once every 12 months. BUT you have to ask for it.

Take Advantage of the 60 day rule.

If you apply for credit, insurance or employment and you are denied based on your credit report, you are entitled to a FREE credit report. You are also entitled to one free report each year if you're unemployed and plan to look for a job within 60 days, if you are' on welfare, or if your report is inaccurate because of fraud, including identity theft.3. Disputes Don't Cost. It doesn't cost anything to dispute mistakes or outdated items on your credit report. Both the credit reporting company and the information provider (the person, company, or organization that provides information about you to a credit reporting company) are responsible for correcting inaccurate or incomplete information in your report. To take advantage of all your rights, contact both the credit reporting company and the information provider.

To order, your report go to or call 1-877-322-8228. You may order reports from each of the three credit reporting companies at the same time, or you can stagger your requests throughout the year.
